Foundation Timeline

The Rory and Elizabeth Brooks Foundation was established in 2006 and has been involved in a number of projects over the past 10 years. The timeline provides a snapshot of some key milestones during this time – both as part of Foundation giving and other related projects in which Elizabeth and Rory are involved.

2017

  • RORY INTERVIEWS MUHAMMAD YUNUS ABOUT HIS NEW BOOK “A WORLD OF THREE ZEROES”

  • ELIZABETH ANNOUNCED AS CHAIR OF THE TATE’S PHOTOGRAPHY ACQUISITIONS COMMITTEE

  • RORY BECOMES CHAIRMAN OF THE CENTRE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE (resigned September 2016)

    Rory Brooks becomes Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Centre for Social Justice.

  • CAPTURING THE GAINS GLOBAL SUMMIT

    Capturing the Gains global summit held in Cape Town.

  • LAUNCH OF “PEARCE REPORT”

    Launch of the “Pearce Report”, Review of Philanthropy in UK Higher Education undertaken by a Government Task Force on which Rory provided a donor perspective.

  • RORY CHAIRED GOVERNMENT’S GIVING SUMMIT’S ACTION GROUP

    Rory chaired the Government’s Giving Summit’s Action Group for Educational Philanthropy.

  • ELIZABETH MADE CHAIR OF TATE PATRON’S COMMITTEE

    Elizabeth is made chair of the Tate Patron’s committee.

  • SUPPORT FOR THE CENTRE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE

    The Foundation provides support to the Centre for Social Justice and Rory Brooks joins the Development Committee as Chairman.

2011

  • HOSTED JOHANNESBURG GLOBAL POVERTY SUMMIT

    Johannesburg

    Hosted the Johannesburg Global Poverty Summit, bringing together high-level policy-makers, government representatives and academics to discuss key issues of poverty and inequality (part of a Foundation commitment made through the Clinton Global Initiative).

2010

  • ELIZABETH JOINS P3 BOARD

    P3 merges with the Rugby Portobello Trust and Elizabeth joins the P3 board as a trustee and vice-chair.

  • RORY AWARDED HONOURARY DOCTORATE

    Rory is awarded an Honourary doctorate from the University of Manchester.

2009

  • BROOKS TRAVEL TO EAST AFRICA

    Rory and Elizabeth travel to East Africa with the BWPI team to visit various programmes of the BWPI

2008

  • QUINTESSENTIALLY FOUNDATION

    Rory Brooks joins the Quintessentially Foundation as an advisor

  • THE RAJENDRAPUR CONVERSATION

    Raj Con

    Clinton Global Initiative commitment made to create “The Rajendrapur Conversation” – a series of high-level convenings to take place in cities around the world to discuss policy related to poverty alleviation.

  • TRIP TO BANGLADESH

    Participatory Appraisal

    Trip to Bangladesh with BWPI and BRAC to visit programmes and projects related to poverty research.

2007

  • CLINTON GLOBAL INITIATIVE

    Rory and Bill Clinton

    Rory invited to join the Clinton Global Initiative. 1st CGI commitment announced: Bangladesh – Sustainable Cities Initiative

  • GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT BOARD

    Rory becomes the inaugural Chair of the Global Development Board at the University of Manchester
